Hi, My name is els!

I’m a Scottish illustrator that is unhealthily obsessed with fineliner pens and minute details. Art has always been an important part of my life. I don’t go a day without creating something, whether its a quick doodle, or a detailed fineliner piece or a painting.

I love how art brings people together, how it can speak to people in ways that words fail to. Creating art is a lifeline for me. On my worst days, I simply start drawing and all the anxiety leaves my body and I feel at peace.

My main inspirations are nature, life and death. Rot and decay is something that fascinates me, with all the different colours and textures and details. I love noticing things that others wouldn’t give a second glance, like the textures of bark, a delicate flower, or an unfortunate animal that’s fallen victim to the traffic on the road.

The details in nature are what inspires me the most. No matter how tall a tree or how small a seed is, there are details in both. The world around me fascinates me.

At the moment, I’m inspired most by birds and flora and that is what is reflected in my work, but I also enjoy abstract painting.

Outside of what directly inspires the work I create, I am also influenced by music, anime/manga, video games and indie animations. Though subtle, they all influence my work in some way or another, sometimes self-consciously.

In the future, I hope to open a shop to sell prints and maybe some other products, so stay tuned!
